Event ID: 1448599 Event Started: 11/17/2009 8:00:00 PM ---------- Please
stand by for realtime captions. >> Hello, everyone and welcome to an
overview of the DPNavigator.net. This is Laura with the NDI Technical
Assistance team and I will be serving as the host for today's webinar in
which my colleagues Moran that and DJ will be walking you through the
website. This is a great website and has a lot of resources and
information for you. I am really glad that you are here today so you can
learn more about them and then began tapping into them. A little bit
about our presenters. Hopefully you have been on previous webinars and
interacted with them, but just in case I want to make sure you know who
they are and why they had so much the value to the work of the technical
assistance project. The presenters again arm Miranda Kennedy and Daniel,
best known as DJ diamond. They provide the providers evolution. Prior to
joining the team, both Miranda and DJ served in the capacity of
navigators and in addition to the navigator roles, Miranda had previous
work at the state level and Colorado helping to pilot the navigator
concept even before VP and was in place. DJ, while she served as a
[Indiscernible] she served as a [Indiscernible] for the state of Alaska.
They have the technology of state and national work force investment
assistance and then their work with the National Technical Assistance
Team, the obviously bring a wealth of knowledge working with the work
force investment system, to help build the capacity to provide effective
and meaningful participation to job-seekers with disabilities, something
all of you are doing right now. On our team, Miranda is taking the team
on implementing the training curriculum and other learning
opportunities. For example, the webinars that you are participating in
and DJ who is our technical wizard is taking the lead on developing and
maintaining the DP Navigator website and is working closely on
development and maintenance of the one-stop tool kit resources of the
week which we are in the process of revamping. Before I turn it over to
Miranda and DJ, I want to go over a few logistical details regarding the
webinar platform we using. Again, many of you may be familiar with it
but there might be some new ones and we want to make sure that everybody
is getting the best opportunity to view and participate. The first thing
I want to point out is there are two facets to this webinar. There is
the webinar portion, which you would get access using the link and then
there is the audio portion, which would connect with wants to access the
web part. We want to make sure all of you are in sync with both the web
at audio portion and this would be especially important when we reached
the question and answer session which will allow a to interact with us
through your phone line. You will see right now on your screen
information on tapping into the audio portion. Please take the time to
do so now. It will not obstruct your Web portion at all. >> If you have
any documents open on your desktop, for instance Internet sites, outlook
for other e-mail services, we strongly recommend that to close those
applications. This will help to prevent a delay in the way that you see
the webinar on the screen in front of you. If your computer has these
and other applications open, it can take that memory and slow down the
way to see the information we representing. This will be important for
this webinar because we it going to be sharing a desktop with you and
walking you through another website in real time. Having other
applications open may slow down the way you see the information as it
transitions on the page. If you have any technical difficulties at any
point during today's webinar, we want you to reach out to our WebEx
support technicians. That information was included in the chat box on
the right and I'm going to give you that toll-free number. It is
(866)863-3904. Please feel free to reach out with them and they will
help you troubleshoot any technical difficulties. You will note in the
lower right hand side after screen, we have closed captioning available.
You can close this down if you don't want to see this screened by
minimizing the multimedia window or you can make the multimedia window
with the captioning bigger by minimizing the windows above it. That is
the chat, question and answer, and panelist windows. During today's
presentation would relieve the PowerPoint to share applications on the
presenters desktop, you will see the closed captioning on the right-hand
side of your screen. Just a reminder, this webinar is being recorded and
along with any power points supporting materials and transcripts, it
will be posted on the navigator news site and its permanent place on the
DP Navigator trading played. We will be showing the same presentation on
Friday so the archives will not be posted until the following week. Once
Miranda and DJ have completed their presentation, we will take time for
questions and answers. I was sure you have to raise your hand to open
our phone lines or submit questions in writing to the Q&A panel at that
time. Until then, underlines will be on mute. We are excited to have
this opportunity to share with you our technical assistance project
website, actually get your project website. With that, I will hand it
over to DJ to get this started. >> Thanks, Laura. Good afternoon to
everyone in the east and good morning to those of you in the west. We
are excited to be able to talk to you about DPNavigator.net today and
give you a little background, as Miranda was dearest work that website
in a second so we can go through life so everyone can see it. There is
the happy family. Just to give you a little background, of we created
this web site in order to help all of you. This web site was created for
state late but specifically for navigators. We try to make it as concise
and ease the navigable as possible. When you come to this site, you'll
notice we have it up here, there is a main menu bar that runs across the
web page in red. As you highlight each of these areas, you will notice
it turns yellow and that you can go to those different areas within the
site. We will start on the home page. This is your basic information. We
try to provide some background. For those of you that might be new
navigators, this is a great place to go when you're looking for general
verbiage in trying to explain the initiative. You can pull it right off
of this page and you can give an overview of the impact of the DPN
initiative. We have a color-coded map with the initiative is. That is
something that is fun. This is just general information. As you scroll
down the page a little more, you will see we keep an option to learn
more by choosing to click here. In addition to the general information,
we say you can click here to learn more about the role of the navigator.
When you click on that, it takes to to the second component of the home
page and it will tell you about the role of the navigator and what it is
supposed to be doing. For a new navigators, this is a great place to
come to find basic info for a quick resources and to appoint people to
as you try to get your footing and establish yourself. Even more
important I think is in the on the third page, it talks about what a
Navigator is and is not. By clicking here, you come to what it
disability program Navigator is and as you scroll down the page you also
learn what a Navigator is not and sometimes what you are not is more key
information that what you are. I know that sounds silly, but you'd be
surprised. It is a short definitive list that will help to classify what
your role is quickly. If you scroll back up the page, one of the main
features I want to point out is in the left-hand corner of the the the
red bar, you will see the blue and yellow navigation bar. This is what I
call your bread crumbs, it tells you where you are within the site.
Think of it as Hansel and gravel and the DUI trail to where you are.
This one says DPNavigator.net home page 3. This is the third page of the
home page. If you go to the main page, it says home page. You will see
that as a consistent theme throughout the site. We design that
intentionally. >> If we move onto the what is new page, we will talk
about that, but before talk about the what's new page, one thing I want
to mention to you, it is a work in progress soon will ask you to bear
with the spirit we have been working with the IT department to have the
site said that so that it opens new windows. When you click on a lake
within the page, for example if you were to click on the one stop
resources of the week, we are trying to set it up so it will open in a
new window. Then when you ride on looking at the intermission, you can
close it and come back to the main page. This is an attempt to make the
site more easily navigated. I just want to mention that. You will find
that feature in places throughout the site. That is something to be
looking for. We have now travel to the what's new page. What's new page
is exactly what it says. The point of this date is to give a place that
you can run and check quickly. As we mentioned, we have an one-stop tool
kit resources of the week. If for some reason you deleted the email, you
can't always come - and access resources of the week. We try to access
other tidbits of information that is coming up. For example right now we
have the disability and employment resources page listed. That was
something that was unveiled last month as part of the awareness month
and something that the U.S. Department of Labor'soffice is proud of. It
is listed there. You will find other things like that. You'll also find
things like upcoming training. Why we send this information out to your
e-mail, we know that your e-mail in box office gets flooded with the
emails as a navigator. We want to make sure you know there is a place
you can go to to find the information to register for training. As Laura
mentioned previously, we also include on the What's New page is the link
to the archived version of our webinar training like this one. You can
also go to the What's New page to find you links to the archives. Right
now, that window is busy working. >> I thought I would quickly show
that, but it looks like it is thinking hard. >> Just to remind all of
you, some of this delay I am thinking is because we are doing through
this the webinar platform. We promise you when you go to the site
yourself it will move more quickly. The other thing that is going on is
because we have the closed captioning happening simultaneously. That is
also part of the slow down. As I was mentioning here is an example of
the upcoming training. It tells you where you are and then it give you
an overview of the training that is coming up. It gives to the date and
the link to register for the training. It is a quick way for you to be
able to find that information quickly. Again, we know how your in box as
quickly fill up. We know these trainings come up and you only have so
long to register. Just remember, go to the DPNavigator.net Web page in
you will more than likely find a link for upcoming training. That is the
What's New page in a nutshell. It is pretty self-explanatory. It is just
try to tell you what is new and what is going on. I will pass this off
to Miranda to talk about the training page. >> Thank you, DJ. I know we
do have a number of new navigators who this might be their first webinar
they are joining us for. Welcome and we are glad to have it all aboard.
For those of you returning, you can see we met make you advancers. It
the DPNavigator.net site is growing and this site was developed for
navigators' and the training we are on today will eventually show up on
this page later next week. What you're looking at this page right here,
it is a little challenging just because we have the captioning on the
right hand side, but it is brought down, this is training back from
October 2009, back to October 2007, we have a lot of great Trading
listed on here and I will show you how to access some of these training
spirit our first two were audio conferences, but the rest were webinars.
You can experience been archived in the same format in front of you. The
only difference that we don't have the live question and answer ability,
but you can go and and see different presenters. I'm going to click on
this top one right here. We do this yearly. Click on that and this is
the format like it does on any of the trainings we have. This tell issue
where you are at and what page you're on in case you forget what page
your clicking on. This gives you a little Burbage about the training and
what it is covering and what is meant to you and what you can take away
from a bit. This is a two part series. You can see this as part one
which covers the checklist and the state. If you click right here, that
will take you to the audio Web recording. The one thing that is
different about our archives versus live webinars is to make sure you
have got your computer speakers turned on because the audio was three
into the computer speakers as opposed to the like webinars where we have
to dial in. That is a good distinction there. You'll see the information
on the screen just as you're seeing it right now. The edit information
are materials and resources that we went over. You have got the
PowerPoint presentation and then we actually have the word document for
the DPN checklist. If you scroll down, there is part two. If you are new
navigators, I highly recommend you check out this navigation. We even
get some of our Navigator select been around all little longer checking
these out. Again, you can see the web blank and the resources that went
along with this. The other thing you might want to think about is maybe
you are crunched for time and you don't have time to listen to a 60 or
90 minute webinar but you might want to check out those resources
because there is a lot of good information. >> Let's go back to the
previous page and to give you an idea of some of the other trainings. We
have 32nd trainings. We have done a whole series at 32nd trainings.
There are a number of ways to get to the 32nd Training Library. These
are fast and fun PowerPoint shows that we have developed in coordination
with the number of navigators' that was pioneered by a [Indiscernible]
and it is a great example of collaboration. You can also find these 32nd
Training on our resources page. If you were to click here on the 32nd
Training you will see the series at trainings we have. I believe there
are over 30. This is information for those of you who have not used the
DPN, I know many SDR and finding been helpful, where open to develop
more of them. For those of you that is new, it is a PowerPoint show that
you could put your PowerPoint information on the last slide and it is on
disability and employment. Often we don't have much time with our staff
and partners to get information to reinforce something they may have
learned in a more formal training. If that is the only mechanism we can
use this week or month, at least it is something we are getting more
information. I highly recommend you check these out. We have got a great
feedback on them and they are easy to use and the directions on how to
use them, you can find by checking out what our earlier 30 Second
Trainings. We have got a number of trainings on how to use 30 Second
Trainings. We also have the Job accommodation Network. The regional ADA
centers. Some of these types of resources, we've got a four part
training on those at all of these are tailored to help can navigators'
best utilize these resources and the stools as you're doing your jobs.
We've got a mental health series and a lot of good information here. The
whole idea is to build off of each other and never have to reinvent the
wheel. We really want to give all of you some great tools and resources
and ideas that you can jump off of and let us know what other things to
happen after innovating and we can include that information on this web
site to share with your peers. We just really excited about this. The
training and the fact we have these archives available, use it in
whatever way you find helpful. We just did strategic networks and
partnership, that will be showing up pretty soon. We are doing another
version of that on the 23rd on Monday next week. Once we are done with
the second session, that will show up right here. Even today's webinar
will show up. I'm going to hand back over to DJ to tell us about the
employment network. >> Thanks, Miranda. For many of you there may be
aware that there has been a movement so to speak towards helping
one-stop career centers become Employment networks and helping them
utilize the ticket to work with applicable. Because the has been a lot
of talk around lot this and a lot of encouragement to become Employment
networks and except tickets and with DPN assisted in that process, we
created a portion of this site that is dedicated to information about
employment and the ticket to work program. As you can see on this page,
you cut the trail that tells you where you are. It talks about the
ticket to work in Work incentives Act is and what Employment networks
are and have the ticket to work works. As you scroll down the page, in
addition to giving you some of this general information, we have
provided three different links to provide you with additional
information about becoming an employment network and about using the
ticket to work. There is a section that is general information. I think
that is pretty self-explanatory to all of you, but it contains general
affirmation. If you want to click on it, I want to give people an idea
of what is there. What to click on that, it takes to to a page that will
provide you with the series of resources. As you can see, there is a
ticket to work basics, overview, the new regulations complete version,
that is a large document. If you're thinking about that, be aware is 82
pages. There is the key changes chart and questions and answers. This
information is just general affirmation, but we try to also give you the
titles of what each of these documents is and a quick synopsis of what
each document offers and that a set format we have tried to follow
closely throughout the site and to convince information and help all of
you know and be able to discern whether or not you want to open it or
not. What we were just looking at was the general information link. The
second link we provide to you and to the ticket to work page is the
state and local examples. For right now what we have done we have worked
with Iowa and for those of you that have been involved in the DPN
initiative for a while, you're probably for the year with I was because
this is talk about how I what has created a statewide employment
network. We wanted to have I wish get that information with you. At this
point, we have Iowa, if you click on it, it to a series of resources
that I know what has developed that talks about the process about them
becoming an employment network. We have divided this into two sections
for the tangible examples. We wanted to give initial startup
information's of this would be set the were you could are from Iowa
about how they got this process started. The second option you have is
what we call operational employment network information. These are
resources that have to do with want to become an Employment Network,
what is the next step? We have tried to make this site and keep it
consistent and try to be as easily navigated as possible and as
straightforward as possible so you know what you're looking for. >> The
last link is a series of web resources. You will see that this page
contains several links. Each one of these websites is flush with
resources. We wanted to give you the main web sites for dealing with the
Employment Network ticket to work program. If you click on any of those,
it will take you right to that site. With that, speaking of web
resources, I will talk more about the resources tab. The resources tab
is one we think he will use often. When you come to the resources tab,
you have got your trail so it tells you where you are at. You would
notice we have four categories. Navigator, by far the largest volume of
our resources, State lead resources, favorite links and DPN contact
charts. I'm going to start at the bottom and work my way up. If you
click on that, this is where you can't find contact information for all
of the state leads. All of the navigator's associated with round one,
round to end around three. I will tell you that we update these often.
When I say often, sometimes I feel like it is about once a month.
Sometimes more, sometimes less, but we try to be consistent. We realize
as you are working as a DPN, you may have the need to reach out to other
navigators'. We try to keep these as up-to-date as possible. >> If we go
back, the favorite links section, it was designed to be a quick list of
widely used Web sites. You noticed the first one is the At Your Service:
Welcoming customers with disabilities website. We hope you're
encouraging your partners to look at that. We did list the site
alphabetically. This list is by no means exhaustive. We tried to capture
as many of the larger sites that we know people are using and finding
information. If you have questions or if you have suggestions, if there
are other sites, particularly national sites you don't see on this list
that you find yourself using often, please send me an e-mail and send
those to us because we like to add those to the sites. The idea ear is
to provide all of you with a quick list of Web sites and links. You know
that the access symbols, you can find that website here in order to
access those. Maybe you have a tough question about accommodations and
employers. You can click on this site and get the contact information.
If you go back up following the State lead resources. I'm not going to
go too much into this. I just what you see there are two categories.
Orientation and training materials you will find a lot of the same
things in there that you will find in navigator resources. The DPN
reporting tools, that isn't old quarterly format that used to be
required up navigators' so all of you should be jumping up and down that
you do not have to do this. It used to be on a quarterly basis. The
reason we included it is that it can serve as a good guide for some of
the things you should be thinking about working on. In all the spare
time you have as a navigator or if you are finding out other things you
can be doing as a navigator or you started to fill like you're
floundering and you're not sure about a road map, you might want to
check out the DPN reporting tool. After the state need resources and
most pertinent is the navigator Resources section. It was designed
specifically for you, for navigators. There are six can categories
within the section. I will start again from the bottom-up. We are not
going to click on these but as Miranda was talking about earlier, the
DPN 30 Second Trainings. I will have to click on that. When you click on
DPN 30 Second Trainings, normally that will open a new window for you.
You can see these 30 Second Trainings, this is another way you can
access this library of trainings. I will say too much about them. I just
wanted to make you aware that you can't access it from the navigator
resources page. Just above the navigator resources is the DPN reporting
tool. It is also within the navigator resources. If you find yourself
philandering or not sure where you're going or need to map out some of
their planned activities, this might be a good idea to have something
else to keep in mind. The sphere of influence is to what degree the one
stop its engaged in the community. The sphere of influence has more to
do have an one-stop career center is viewed by people with disabilities
and Community partners. The idea behind the sphere of influence is to
provide you with some good outreach and marketing strategies. If you
click on the sphere of influence, you get a feel for types of resources.
It would include things like the DPN marketing brochure, information
about building an interagency committee. It will include - it is very
slow today. You're going to find a lot of information that looks at the
larger concept of what the DPN initiative is trying to accomplish. As I
mentioned, there are guidelines for marketing. There are the faces of
the DPN implementation maturity model chart. There are several different
types of resources here, but they are mostly around relationship
development collaboration and coordination and cultivating the
relationship between community members and community organizations and
one-stop career center. >> Just prior to the sphere of influence, you
have to bear with us because the website is running slow today. That is
only because we tried to share this with the life. Just prior to the
sphere of influence, you have the problem-solving category. The
problem-solving category is designed to give these strategies and
resources and information on how to help you work around some of the
difficulties you might days as a navigator. Again, things like the
integrated Resources Team where you are leveraging and blending of funds
and services around one individual job speaker. This is where we talk
about the interagency committee which consist of multiple community and
one-stop Partners who are looking at the systems level. We have examples
here like effective collaboration strategies for veterans.
Problem-solving is a larger category that is try to help you look at
ways to coordinate and collaborate in order to address the problems the
system may be facing in terms of serving people with disabilities with
in the one stop. Just prior to the problem category is the
accessibility. Hopefully for most of you that is pretty straightforward.
The accessibility category provides resources through out excess
abilities. Again you will find the DPN checklist. You will find the ADA
in your one-stop career center PowerPoint. You will find things of
around the ADA and information at that you serving as our resources.
Disability related information. That is something that is a good
resource. This is all about accessibility and provides you with
guidelines and concepts regarding accessibility. >> The last category
under the disability Resources is disability expertise. The idea behind
this is to provide disability related information and resources for you
as a navigator to use to help expand the death of disability expertise
within the one-stop career center helping you to in part that knowledge
so that they can surf job-seekers with disabilities. The work force
development system, for those of you that our new, you will notice that
is one of the first things we ask you to look at. The general background
about the work force investment back. The DPN checklist is listed to
multiple places throughout the website. >> We don't want people to miss
that. >> We put it into a lot of places. The key principles of the work
force investment act, that this general background information. Those of
you knew, on the whole, this is good information for you. Disability
inquiries within the workforce development system. This part of the
website is all about disability backgrounds and have to import knowledge
to staff members. We strongly encourage you to take a look at a lot of
these documents. The librarian is another good resources. We would
encourage you all of you that our new to look into that. We tried to
make this site as self explanatory and is easily navigated as possible.
You hopefully find the information useful. Moving on from resources, I
will hand it over to Miranda to talk about the Navigator frequently
asked questions. >> Thank you. It is great that we are just talking
about all the resources because that you probably realize there are a
lot of resources out there. Especially for new navigators, be glad
you're coming on board now because these did not all exist when I
started as a navigator. We have developed a lot of overtime. It we have
accrued all of these resources and a majority of which that word
developed by your fellow navigators'. The frequently asked question page
will probably be helpful in trying to figure out what to do with all the
resources and have to use them. This will help to break things down.
Even the very first question, the DPN job description is lengthy and
covers a broad range of job duties. Where do I start and had a wide
prioritize my duties? If you click on this, it gives a brief example of
an understanding of what your role is and information to help you get
started in that role. That is the first one. There are 28 basic and
advanced Bricklin asked questions. If you click on the leg, it will take
it to a page that provides a lot more information. If you are moving
along, here is a narrative. It talks about how to work together with
your one-stop administration. This gives you a little bit of background.
Below, you always find different resources and links to this resources
and that can help you take your question and turn it into action and
move forward. I want to touch base on a couple and to give you an idea
and flavor for the types of contents. We started doing these frequent
asked questions in number of years back. What you will see sometimes it
was updated in May 2009. We try to update these regularly to make sure
the links are active and information is relevant. Sometimes we have
integrated information. You might be moving along and now you understand
what your role is and you're starting to try to pull together training
activities that you can coordinate for one-stop staff and how to help
them effectively serve individuals with disabilities. If you click on
that leg it will give you some background. What you will find in the
FAQs, and we refer to a number of FAQs in the DPN checklist, we did not
include all of the prickly asked questions although we encourage you to
check out all of the FAQs. You might be familiar with these already from
that checklist. Training is a basic question. How you start training? It
will give this some ideas. The benefit of all of us navigators with gone
before you and who we have learned so much from. That is where we pull
together these answers and the resources to go along with the answer. We
try not to overwhelm you with too many resources. We have tried to give
you the top four or five resources or maybe a few more than that and to
give a wide array of resources you can reach into and benefit from but
hopefully not so much that you are overwhelmed. You can see this is a
basic question. This might be the first train you want to do to develop
synthetic it and awareness. Showing them the video on serving people
with disabilities on the one stop. Even introducing them to the Job
accommodation. Those might be some good things to do of basic training.
But here is an enhanced version of the question. It is always about
continuing to advance and move forward. These advanced questions will
help you determine strategies for taking it up a step in bringing in
your community work into the Coordinator or sharing information on past
plans and Work incentives for individuals with disabilities. There is a
number of things you can do. You can do newsletters or send information
out and using 30 Second Trainings and have to approach doing this. There
are a lot of great resources in these questions, especially the advanced
ones. The great thing about FAQs is you can check and out at a rate that
applies to you. We want to continue to bring this up as our resources
because it might be learned about the FAQs first three months on the
job, but a year or two into the job, you may have forgotten that this
resource is here and you're having some of these more advanced
questions. Hopefully some of you on the call are being reminded that
this resources here. If you have things that you're doing that need to
be reflected or you need more one-on-one, reach out to us. We want to
learn from you and to help you and potentially connect you with some of
your fellow navigators who are working on some of the same types of
issues. That is quite a bit about the Navigator FAQs. There are more on
the toolbar. >> What we start with who we are. Who we are talks about
who we are. Who we are is set it much like the original home page that
we went through earlier and that they're more than one page. It talks
about us as an it organization. To learn more about the staff you can
take to who we are on page two. That talks about who we are as a staff
and involved with this project. It would include Michael Morris, who
knew no, as well as Laura, Miranda and myself and subject matter experts
that would include Sharon Grant. And Elizabeth Jennings as well. Many
that you might know or will learn about as your role may lead to into
the Employment Network. That page give that information. The third page
talks more about our goals. When you click here, it gives to the
background of those tidbits I was offer you about each of us that
comprise the Technical Assistance team. If you move on, the next thing
we will go to is the site index. The site index is still a bit of a work
in progress. The idea behind the site index is to give general key terms
in places you may find that key term within the website. You can see in
this set up alphabetically. We have accessibility and access. This is
your quick way to get places. Again, the whole idea behind the site
index is to include some key terms that when you're looking for
something specific and you don't want to search through resources, you
might want to come into the site Index and be able to score quickly and
that will give you several resources. The site index is still a work in
progress as the resources are developed and we are adding to those. New
terms that seem to bubble up, we try to add those. The last have that we
have is the contact us tab. Hopefully that is pretty self-explanatory.
The contact us page is designed to give you some information about who
to contact and you as a navigator should contact. You'll notice there is
general information about contacting the DPN program office and for
rounds one, two and three, it either ask you to contact Laura or myself.
We have also listed a charts to give me an idea of who is in each round.
If you're unsure which round you're in, surprisingly, that does happen.
This can also give it a better picture of the overall disbursement of
states threw out the DPN initiative. Underneath that for training and
learning opportunities, Miranda heads that up and we also provide you
with her e-mail address. For systems capacity building, we also have
listed [Indiscernible], hopefully some of the last week were on the
strategic expert in webinar. Chip is our expert in that area so we have
provided you with this information. And the ticket to work program would
be Elizabeth Jennings and just general information. We ask you to visit
the who we are page. We try to provide you with different categories.
Perhaps you are a new navigator and looking for a specific resources.
You may have spent a while looking for this resource, you like what to
contact Laura or myself. If you have a question around partnerships or
strategic networking, in that case you might contact chip . Again, this
page was designed with the concept in mind that we wanted to give you a
rough idea that we should contact and that ensures that should get the
expert for each of those categories. That in itself a kind of wraps up
what DPNavigator.net is. If you're not already using the site, we hope
after today you will use this site. It was designed for all of you and
we designed it to be as easy to use as we could. I will hand it back to
Laura so she can talk about opening the lines and submitting questions.
>> Thank you, DJ and Miranda. As always I will make some comments
because I really excited about this web site. As the DPN initiative a
bald, so has the level of technical assistance and training, but we have
been able to give. As Miranda and loaded to at the beginning, and the
navigator program was implemented, there was no website, there were no
resources or archived trainings to make navigators' aware of. As the
program was evolving so was everything else including the technical
assistance and training. We are excited that we have learned that we
have learned from navigators' around the nation as the program has
grown. We try to highlight what we have learned on this web site. I just
want to again emphasize and reiterate some of the things that DJ and
Miranda touched on. That is the training. One, we are using the webinar
platform that allows us to archive the training, both the web and audio
portion. These are trainings that have been developed and Kedar towards
navigators'. When we started, the trainings were not always catered to
these. These trainings were put together to help you through your work
in that field. As Miranda walked into the different trainings, if you
are not familiar with some of the subject matters, for instance, the Job
accommodation Network, the disability Mentors, do go back into the
archives. Tools and resources that cater to help you at the committee
level. I can never say enough about the 30 Second Trainings. Imagine two
navigators, one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast coming to a
training in 2004 in Chicago, the middle of the country, networking and
going back to the respective locations and building off of each other on
what they could do to help their communities and they build upon this
32nd to any concept. It is really been an effective, fun and educational
way to get the word out to many levels of partners in the one stop
system and in the community. >> The FAQs. Even before the navigator
initiative started, they ask this summit questions that we did not have
the answers. Two years after it was implemented, that is one of the
things at the national level, we started working on providing questions
and answers. They are really good questions. There are some very big
consequence to help new navigators Applegate and get a better
understanding. As you go on, more specific was targeted to working with
partners, working with Systems, working within the one stop on
accessibility. Each of those FAQs include resources and strategies
specifically directed towards navigators and often examples of how other
navigators' who have identified or implemented effective strategies are
incorporated. The resources section is follow. So many great resources.
DJ did a great job at trying to file them in a way that made sense to
the work that Navigator is due at the community level and that is why
there broken down into the categories that are. I can't emphasize or
reiterate enough how important this web site is for you as a navigator.
It was really developed to make your job easier. We do realize this is
our first time visiting if there might be so much here. Just as DJ and
Miranda said to you, if you're looking for something and you're not
really sure where it is, please don't take a lot of time. Come to us and
we can easily direct you to a location. We hope that you are learning
and equally excited about it and that you have learned it something that
exists that you did not know before. Please tell us about it. With that,
I'm going to contain my excitement and I want to open the lines for any
questions or comments about what Miranda and DJ have shared. There is a
couple of ways you can do that. If you are in sync to the audio portion,
we can show you that it permission at get in a minute, below the
participant box and about the chat box, you should see a raised icon. If
you look over here, you will see a raised hand icon. Just click on that
and that will raise your hand and we can and mute your lines so you can
share an us. Their other opportunities, too. You can use either the chat
box or the Q&A panel. You submit your question and send it to the host
and the presenters and then we can't answer them. I see a question from
Minnesota. Is there any resources or training for assuring that
electronic documents and PowerPoint presentations are fully accessible?
>> Do you want me to flip open DPNavigator.net again to get to that? >>
We can. >> We could even look on the charts and the site index. >> I am
not sure if there is something as specific as what she is requesting in
terms of training that would deal specifically with that. That is a
pretty specific question. You're talking about electronic documents. One
of the things I might suggest or a place to look for a resource like
that would be from your local [Speaker Faint/Unclear]. [Overlapping
Speakers] >> It has been a while now, but I have looked into that exact
thing. Had he made sure different electronic documents are accessible.
And even DJ, in terms that our DPNavigator.net web site was accessible,
you use information from the Job accommodation Network. The Job
accommodation Network is listed predominately throughout. If you were to
go on the training page of the DPNavigator.net site, the Job
accommodation Network provided a walk through of their newly revamped
website right after they got it done and that was late last year. It is
a great webinar because they show you how to best use their website and
a walking through different places. I learned a lot and I use that
website all the time. I learned how to find different things. They have
got all kinds of publications and resources. I would watch that trading
in check out the website. It was almost a year ago and it most certainly
has new documentation. They are great resources, too. >> That is a good
question. If he did identify a document that you feel explains how to
make electronic document and PowerPoint pull it accessible, we would
love for you to share that with us so that is in other resources that DJ
can add to the website. It was mentioned during the presentation, you
might find resources that are not appear at this point and you might
think this might be a great resource for navigators to have. Please
share it with this. This is something we will consider posting. As DJ
said, as long as we continue, we continue to learn as we do so we want
to make sure we have the information resources that will help you. >>
Another piece, there is a frequently asked question, it talks about
marketing. The market in Navigator or the one stop and it also includes
information as the resources on making sure that you're a music
accessible resources and it gives examples a websites. >> Also, under
the resources section, there is going to be a Resources about developing
materials and marketing materials that include the same intermission. If
you could send this to an email, this is something the three of us to
talk about and research what materials on the website we could pick
available and what organizations we could recommend. >> I got a chat to
me privately from someone asking that there was a DPN description given
in a webinar, an elevator version of a DPN. [Speaker Faint/Unclear] what
he was discussing was his own title and his description that he kissed
his mother, not necessarily what a navigator would provide. If you're
looking for that material on the website we just showed you, it is going
to be posted since we did that on Friday. We've got another version of
that training happening on the 23rd. That training will be showing up
later that week after we do the final version on the training pages and
archives. You can find the PowerPoint where he gives that description of
what he tells his mother on what he does. The other thing is that when a
Navigator is and isn't, that DJ shared earlier on the home page, you got
to click on the second and the third link to get to more detail about
what a Navigator is or isn't, that kind of the intermission with
excellent to include as you come up with the 32nd elevator speech. >>
First I want to say who ever said that private chat to Miranda, it is
nice to you that you were participating on the previous webinar. I
really like the elevator speech comment. One of the points that chip was
making during that presentation, it is often hard to describe in a line
or two which are position is as a disability program navigator. It is
really beneficial to hear what chip had said, the response that we could
be prepared to make. We are excited that one of our new round for
projects in glom as they say for America's day begins, it is either 14
or 15 hours ahead of us. Are you there? I have to say, since he has
become a navigator, even before he was officially and navigator has been
using this web site at participating in training. I think these
trainings and up being his morning coffee chat. >> It is 7:10 in the
morning on Wednesday. We are 14 hours ahead of the East coast. Happy day
to all of you. >> Thank you. What comments or questions you have for us
today? Again, we appreciate you getting up and having your morning
coffee with us. >> First of all, the last three months I have been going
through annualizing this site and the other site. Today was the first
time I saw the entire over the site and I really appreciate this. I have
been going through all of the main site at the very top. Just sorting
pitch one was applicable to me on that day or week. I really appreciate
this. Now I've got a bird's eye view. This is great. Specifically, as we
learn and as we open up these slides into the various areas, I have been
of course making hard copies and passing it out to one-stop career
centers staff and as we move out to the community. The 32nd done on
national disability awareness was great. That was the first and
interacted with employers of the bomb Employment Service site. We are
training partners and as they job develop, we have had a really good
response to that. The quickly can read it and so it has been great. The
two guys that did that development [Indiscernible] they saw something
that could be useful for all of us across the country. The question is,
how can I, other than doing orientations for one-stop we are looking at
me be emailing some of these to individuals or a bulk e-mail, I was is
thinking in different ways. What would your advice be? >> Are you still
talking about the 30 Second Trainings or using the other affirmation? >>
The other information specifically so we can target, for instance, the
disability attitudes. The employment service and things like that. What
is more effective at terms - I am just learning myself. >> The other
thing you need to speak about is sending out things that people read who
already have a lot [Overlapping Speakers] another thing you might want
to consider doing, there are a number of approaches in terms of how you
approach training staff and bringing in the other trainers. There are
some great FAQs that delve into that. You might also want to look at, I
did not take into the page I should have, the 30 Second Trainings
library. You've got the training she set up for negativity Employment
awareness month, but there is like 25 other trainings in there. They
cover a lot of other topics. Those are 30 Second Trainings that you can
get the PowerPoint show at which your own contact information on the
last slide, said that at to your list and reach the audience. You want
to check this trainings out to see if they would be appropriate. They
are pretty fun and there is some good body of that goes along with it.
If you send it to people in a cubicle environment or people who wear
business suits on Fridays, some of them might be a little more tiki.
They are supposed to be fun and augmenting information you're getting
and other ways. It might be another way of getting your contact
information out there. I would check out those other FAQs, the basic
ones on the kinds of training you can provide and looking into those
resources. We are here to provide do a little more TA. If you have
fellow navigators' that have been there longer than you or the Project
lead that can help you decide to move forward with training. There are
more targeted suggestions in the DPN checklist. If people want to touch
base with less, you're TA liaison, you are welcome to do that. I don't
have a cookie cutter answer on how to provide that training. Part of the
genius at having the navigator's locally is that you can help to
determine it might be your at a certain level that you need to provide
the basics, you may need to provide advanced training. You can take the
temperature of how busy your staff is and what they're asking for and
what they could benefit from. DJ comedy want to jump in here? >> You
covered a lot of it. I would say to you as Miranda was cautioning you
about sending out information, one of the ways we have seen navigator's
share information is through a tip of the week. You set up schedules and
share an one or three line sentence about a resource and get in the
link. It is kind of the boring way of doing a 32nd training. It is a
good way to get out information and people like filed it away. That is
one of the other small strategies that you can use to disseminate that
information. We would caution you again of Senate out large chunks of
the information at once because people are busy. If you start sending
that out, that President becomes cent and all of a sudden people are not
opening it because they say they do not have time to read it. It is
quick, people become more inclined to look at it. >> Another thing we
did recently, as part of the DP Navigator orientation, we did a two part
orientation. The second part included serving as a resource library.
That touched on have to bring in training and the approach to take. That
might be something you want to look at because it also talks about how
you parcel out that information and not overwhelm people. A lot of this
information, I have been at trainings and ensure a minute that you have
really come away and they're asking you to take a drink of water out of
a buyer hose. It is hard to do. One of my business services liaison
really helped to crystallized formme and never years ago. He say do need
to toss a softball in a way you can catch it. You want to think about
that. >> By the way, I missed the October 14 and 16 [Overlapping
Speakers] >> It is all that training page. >> I am making and of to make
sure I go back there. >> It also has the second part of the same
training and establishing an interagency committee which can be helpful
in deciding the types of training and pulling in other partners that can
help you with cross trading and building partnerships. I really suggest
to check it out. It is on the training page. There are materials you can
look at and even the resource librarian. That is on a couple of pages.
>> Thank you so much for that. When the train went by, it was one of
those things where it opened the e-mail afterwards. I appreciate all of
the help you folks do. After next month, the conference in Bethesda, on
the way back I will stop over in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm just making some
contacts in Atlanta. >> We can also connect you with the project lead in
Georgia. Maybe might have the opportunity to connect with some
navigators'. >> Okay. >> Thank you for your comments and think for the
feedback on the website. We also got a comment from and through that
builds upon what you said. He said he has visited the site, but did not
know really how comprehensive it is. That is one of the reasons we are
going through this overview to let you know what is seared and available
for you and realizing and appreciating your time. That is what is
webinars due. I also wanted to say in terms of resources to share. Many
of the trainings include supporting materials that consolidate the
information. If you see some archived trainings, you will notice the
forepart Social Security Administration series. There are many handouts
and snapshots created specifically for the navigators. Some were created
for the Navigator is to share with one stop. You will find that on the
two part asset development series. There was a snapshot consolidating
information on asset development. I know the disability and business
Technical Assistance Center training, both parts included a handout for
navigators to take. There are also those opportunities to give you a
reference sheet and which might be more appropriate to share as well
with your staff. We really do appreciate all of the comments we are
getting about the website, but most important, that you were finding it
user-friendly. Again the benefit of bringing people from the navigator
initiative to be part of the national technical assistance and training
team really ensures that our technical assistance and training is being
driven by what impacts and what will benefit navigators' at the
community level. DJ took the lead in developing and maintaining this web
site. At the beginning, we all discussed it and I would say I didn't
know at that structure will work. I was a navigator, I know what they
need. The feedback has supported that. We are glad these resources are
benefiting you and they are here to do that. We are here to do that. We
hope you will continue to reach out to us and that you access this web
site and constantly look at the what you section. The FAQs section, you
might not be familiar with them. In your spare time, do read the
questions that are up there to familiarize yourself. They were written
by previous navigators' who wrote from experience that reached out to
navigators' nationwide to learn about their experiences and try to
calculate the best examples and strategies. With that, I don't see other
questions or comments. DJ or Miranda, to you have any last thoughts? >>
I just want to say thanks to everyone for joining us. We hope you found
this over the useful. If you have questions or things come up, please
e-mail me. >> I just want to say thanks again to everyone. Definitely
send us comments and feedback to DJ it can sheet is great is
incorporating that. This web site has grown so much. It is laid out very
intuitively and we are hoping you are finding it helpful. We have gotten
many comments. It would be nothing without all the work with all of the
navigator's. I would like to thank my co-host, DJ and Laura. >> Thank
you everyone and think before our last comment. We appreciate that.
Miranda, do we have a post webinar survey? >> We do. If you could answer
those questions we really appreciate your feedback. >> These trains are
for you so we want to know have the impact you and how we can make the
better. With that, thank you everyone for spending your last hour and a
half with the US. For all the work that U.S. navigators', it is really
making a difference and by participating in these trainings showing your
commitment and dedication to making more meaningful and effective
participation for job seekers for disabilities and the work force
systems. Enjoy the rest of your day and we look forward to catching up
with you on the next webinar. Thanks, everyone. [Event Concluded]
