Disability Program Navigator: Training ; 2009: Mental Health Month Webinar Series
As part of ongoing technical assistance activities, NDI Consulting Inc, the national TA and Training Provider to the Disability Program Navigator Initiative, hosted a three part series to highlight May as “Mental Health Month”. This three part series was hosted by Miranda Kennedy, NDI Consulting Inc. and included expert guest presenters, Toni Costales-Servin and Kevin Nickerson, 30-Second Training Experts, Clare Miller, Director of Partnership for Workplace Mental Health a program of the American Psychiatric Association, and Larry Abramson, Director of Vocational Services at St. Luke’s House and Sheila Cuomo, Mental Health Disability Program Navigator at Montgomery Works in Maryland.
The purpose of this series was to provide Navigators with tools, resources and strategies to create and enhance the One-Stop Career Center’s knowledge and relationship with the mental health community and how to most effectively serve job seekers with mental health disabilities as well as how to assist employers in effectively working with employees who experience mental health disabilities.
This series offers the following information:
- Activities that Navigators can organize to promote Mental Health Month.
- 30-Second Trainings that were created specifically around Mental Health awareness.
- Specific strategies and resources that Navigators and their One-Stop Business Services staff can share with employers, business community contacts such as Chambers, Rotary Clubs, SHRM, and others to support mental health in the workplace.
- A Mental Health Resource Guide.
- Real-Life example of how one DPN project has been able to coordinate closely with the mental health system to ensure that Job seekers with mental health disabilities are receiving services and support in obtaining and maintaining employment.
